In the Laguna Hills boys’ volleyball tournament:

Foothill Wins--Led by tournament most valuable player Rich Lambourne, the Knights defeated El Modena, 15-12, 15-6, in the championship match. Garden Grove defeated Calvary Chapel, 16-14, in the consolation final.

Also earning all-tournament honors with Lambourne were Doug Finell (Valencia), Aaron Seltzer (El Modena), Josh Green (Capistrano Valley Christian), Jose Marquez (Santa Fe), Aaron Cook (Laguna Hills) and David Tran (Garden Grove).

At the Estancia badminton tournament:

Estancia Wins Four--Estancia’s Chau Nguyen won the boys’ singles final and teamed with Eagle teammate Doan Nguyen to win the mixed doubles Saturday at Estancia High.

Doan Nguyen and Concha Gil of Estancia won the girls’ doubles championship, and Sonofoha Tram and Danh Nguyen of Estancia combined to win the the boys’ doubles title.

In the girls’ singles final, Ocean View’s Anh Loi defeated Lian Tran of Rosemead, 11-8, 11-7.

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Poway 106, Capistrano Valley 72--Trevor Meyer won the 100 and 200-freestyle and Dan Batten won the 100-backstroke for Capistrano Valley (1-1). Batten also qualified for the Southern Section meet in the 100-butterfly.

In nonleague girls’ swimming:

Poway 95, Capistrano Valley 84--Tracey McCalley and Jeannine Povey each won two events for Capistrano Valley, and Povey qualified for the Southern Section meet in the 500-freestyle, swimming a 5:19.82. The Cougars are 1-1.
