As far as anyone can tell, Darrell McMillin tied the Cal Lutheran season record for home runs Tuesday when he hit a first-inning, three-run shot to center field in an 11-1 win over Cal State Los Angeles.

McMillin, a transfer from Ventura College, is tied with Pete Washington, who hit 14 in 1990.

But the Kingsmen’s records date to only 1986. Records for the 24 years of Cal Lutheran baseball before 1986 are in storage and have not been compiled, according to a Cal Lutheran sports information department spokesman.

“The files are just not at arm’s-length where we can get to them,” said John Anthony, Cal Lutheran sports information director. “Who knows, they may call in and say, ‘I had 20 home runs in 1970.’ ”

McMillin, who will turn 23 on Sunday, might also be approaching the NCAA Division III record, but again no one knows for sure because the NCAA does not keep baseball records for that division. The season home run record-holder for Division II is Scott Sharts, who hit 29 in 1990 for Cal State Northridge. The Division I season record is held by Pete Incaviglia, who hit 48 in 1985 for Oklahoma State.

Baseball: Scott Richardson leads Cal State Northridge in hits (38), runs (30) and stolen bases (11), and also has cracked the Matador all-time top 10 in five categories. Richardson, a junior, is third in triples (11), trailing Jeff Gilbert (13, 1974-77) and Jerry Libman (12, 1962-64). His 39 stolen bases rank him fourth behind Bob Slater (47, 1974-76), Mike O’Hara (45, 1980-83) and Irv Zakheim (44, 1970-71). Richardson has scored 134 runs to rank seventh on that list. He also has 196 hits (eighth) and 630 at-bats (ninth).

Richardson trails senior teammate Greg Shockey in hits and runs. Shockey has scored 151 runs, fourth on the list behind Craig Clayton and O’Hara, the co-record-holders with 175.

Shockey is third on the hit list with 239. Clayton holds that record with 276. Shockey also has 135 runs batted in, third on the list behind Clayton (150) and Sharts (140). . . .

Northridge (19-7-1) is one game ahead of its pace of last season when the Matadors finished 44-18-1 and earned an NCAA regional berth. . . . Scott Mowl, Northridge’s designated hitter, has 16 RBIs in 53 at-bats. Shockey, the team leader, has 21 in 105 at-bats. . . .

The Cal Lutheran pitching staff has an earned-run average of 1.56 in 199 innings. The Kingsmen (23-1) have outscored opponents, 251-45, and have outhit them, 281-138. Nine of 14 players who have appeared in at least half of the 24 games are batting better than .300. Eric Johnson leads the starters with a .395 average. Johnson, who played at Cal State Northridge last season, also leads the team in doubles with 12, is second in home runs with six, and fourth in RBIs with 22. McMillin leads the team in RBIs with 33.

Golf: Cal Lutheran finished eighth out of 14 teams in its invitational at Wood Ranch Country Club on Monday. The four NCAA Division I teams in the tournament claimed three of the top four places: Cal State Long Beach (617) won, Division III UC San Diego (629) finished second, Loyola Marymount (637) was third and Cal State Northridge (639) was fourth. Cal Lutheran was 72 strokes off the pace at 689.
