COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago’s Fontana Improves Record to 10-0

Unbeaten Mike Fontana won his 10th game, pitching a five-hitter and striking out six, as Rancho Santiago defeated Los Angeles City College, 8-2, in a first-round game of the Channel Coast baseball tournament Wednesday at Moorpark College.

Aaron Butler drove in two runs and Steve Thobe was three for four with an RBI as the Dons improved to 22-9.

In the Hancock baseball tournament:

Cypress 5, Merced 2--Andy Trumpour (5-2) allowed two hits and a run, struck out seven and walked four in seven innings for Cypress in the first round. Chad Troxel pitched two innings of one-hit relief for his second save.

Tony Martinez and Ron Hernandez each hit two-run home runs for Cypress (21-15).

In the College of the Sequoias baseball tournament:

De Anza 11, Orange Coast 9--Scott Sebbo had two hits and two RBIs in the ninth inning for Orange Coast (15-11). Orange Coast had eight hits in the ninth.
