Avocado League

Oceanside 2, Ramona 1--Oceanside’s John Portugal (5-2) struck out 18 in eight innings, walked five and allowed only one hit. The Pirates won it in the eight on a two-out single by Forrest Belew.

Escondido 4, San Marcos 2--Vu Dang went two for three with an RBI to lead Escondido (11-7, 7-0). Mark Redman (5-3) got the complete-game victory.

San Pasqual 2, Carlsbad 1--San Pasqual (4-11, 3-4) won it in the bottom of the seventh when Isaac Henrick was hit by a pitch. After pinch-runner Brian Peeples was sacrificed to second, he scored on Mike Haag’s double.

Grossmont 3-A League

Grossmont 6, Granite Hills 5--Jason Eskridge scored the winning run on a wild pitch as No. 1 Grossmont (14-1-1, 4-0) scored three runs in the sixth inning without the benefit of a hit. The Foothillers took advantage of three walks, two errors, a sacrifice, two fielder’s choices and the wild pitch. Granite Hills (10-8, 1-3) got a two-run double from Eric Nelson.

Grossmont 2-A League

El Capitan 11, Valhalla 3--Matt McFarlane (homer, four RBIs) and Mike Leone (homer, three RBIs) had two hits apiece for No. 6 El Capitan (14-7, 3-1). Freshman Donny Nichols had a homer for Valhalla (6-12, 1-3), and winner Matt LaChappa struck out nine.

West Hills 3, El Cajon 0--West Hill’s Steve Gotowala had three hits, and Pete Hernandez pitched a four-hitter.

Palomar League

Vista 10, Torrey Pines 1--No. 9 hitter Jerry Butkiewicz had three hits (two triples) and three RBIs for No. 5 Vista (14-3-1, 5-2). Matt Stone, who pitched a three-hitter and struck out nine, had a two-run double. Brian Field had two hits and two RBIs.

Fallbrook 3, Rancho Buena Vista 1--Fallbrook (9-8, 3-4) upset first-place RBV (11-8-1, 5-2) with RBIs from Jeff Boyer, Mike McInerny and Mike Chiarella. Steve Pack (5-2) pitched a four-hitter. RBV committed seven errors; only one of Fallbrook’s runs were earned.

Mt. Carmel 10, Orange Glen 4--Jason Corlett had three hits and two RBIs, and Dave Korinek had two hits and three RBIs for Mt. Carmel (9-12, 2-5). Orange Glen (6-12-1, 3-4) got three of its four hits in a four-run second.
