Coley Kyman, a 6-foot-5 sophomore middle blocker on the Cal State Northridge men’s volleyball team, has been selected to the first team of Volleyball Monthly’s All-American team.
Kyman averaged 6.17 kills a game, fourth best in the nation, and had a hitting percentage of nearly .400 to lead Northridge to a 19-12 record. Northridge lost to Stanford in the final of the Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. tournament on April 15.
Northridge’s Ken Lynch, a junior middle blocker, was named to the third team, and Axel Hager, a junior outside hitter, was an honorable-mention selection.
The Western Football Conference announced Friday that it will become an NCAA Division I-AA league for the 1993 season.
Cal State Northridge, Cal State Sacramento, Southern Utah and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo--all current members of the WFC at the Division II level--have accepted invitations to remain conference members.
Vic Buccola, WFC commissioner, said in a prepared statement that UC Davis will become part of the conference when it moves its entire sports program to Division I in 1993.
Carrie Dormire and Shannon Crouse, who played high school basketball in Sonoma County, have signed letters of intent to play at Northridge.
Dormire, a 5-foot-10 forward, averaged 13 points and eight rebounds for Healdsburg High. Crouse, also a 5-10 forward, averaged 18 points for state Division IV champion Ursuline of Rohnert Park.
