HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : LJCD’s Blake Has No-Hitter Against Julian

La Jolla Country Day’s Jamie Blake pitched struck out five and walked only one as he pitched a no-hitter to lead the Torres to a 6-0 victory against Julian in a 1-A Coastal League baseball game Friday.

Blake, a senior right-hander, took advantage of an outstanding curveball. He got the better of Julian’s Graham Koonce, who entered the week as the San Diego Section’s second-leading batter with a .551 average. Koonce went 0 for 3.

LJCD (9-7, 5-2) was led offensively by Billy Neiswender, who went two for three with three RBIs.

Avocado League

San Marcos 8, Carlsbad 6--Trailing 6-4, Ryan Gallego and Kyle Scott began a sixth-inning rally for San Marcos (8-9, 5-3) with back-to-back solo homers, followed by Kurt Gallego’ RBI single and Matt Lentz’s RBI double.

San Pasqual 3, Oceanside 2--San Pasqual tied the game in the bottom of the 11th on Angel Soto’s sacrifice fly, and won it in the 12th when Josh Koral (two for four) scored from second base on a wild pitch and a throwing error. Carl Mathis pitched 10 innings for Oceanside, striking out 11, walking three and allowing five hits. Winning pitcher Mike Corns (2-5) left the game after 7 2/3 innings, but re-entered with an out in the 11th to get the victory.

Rancho Bernardo 2, Ramona 1--Mike DeJesus got on board by way of a fielder’s choice, stole second and scored on Pete Keleher’s two-out double in the top of the seventh to lift Rancho Bernardo (9-9, 5-3). Ramona is 5-15, 1-7.

Grossmont 3-A League

Grossmont 10, Mt. Miguel 6--Wynter Phoenix provided No. 1 Grossmont’s offensive punch with three hits, including a double and solo home run, and scored three times. He got support from Jon Henrichs, who doubled, tripled, scored, and drove in a run for the Foothillers (15-1-1, 5-0). Shannon Monroe homered for Grossmont and Chris Green homered for Mt. Miguel (9-11, 1-4).

Granite Hills 9, Monte Vista 4--Bobby O’Donnell went two for four with three RBIs, and his two-run single in the fifth inning gave Granite Hills (11-8, 2-3) a 5-3 lead it did not relinquish. Chad Burchett went three for three with an RBI and scored twice, and Eric Nelson added two hits, two runs and an RBI. Monte Vista is 13-10-1, 2-3.

Grossmont 2-A League

Valhalla 5, West Hills 1--Rey Neder (6-2) pitched a two-hitter, and Derric Waller had two hits and an RBI and Rob Reid tripled and scored a run to lead Valhalla (8-12-3, 2-4).

Santana 6, El Cajon Valley 1--Doug Schultz went three for three with two doubles and three RBIs for Santana (13-8-1, 2-3).

Palomar League

Vista 2, Orange Glen 0--Aaron Rounsifer’s two-run homer in the top of the seventh saved fifth-ranked Vista (15-3-1, 6-2).

Poway 7, Fallbrook 5--Steve Boros had three hits as No. 8 Poway (13-4, 6-2) beat Fallbrook (9-9-1, 3-5) in 11 innings. Scott Tittrington pitched the final five innings for to pick up the victory. Fallbrook’s Ely Cecil contributed three hits, including a two-run homer in the seventh, and drove in three runs, and Steve Pack added three hits.

Rancho Buena Vista 5, Mt. Carmel 3--Mt. Carmel (8-13, 2-6) committed four errors that allowed first-place RBV (12-8-1, 6-2) to score three runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh.

San Dieguito 5, Torrey Pines 0--Terrin Durfey (4-4) pitched a five-hitter and David Oseguera had two hits and two RBIs for San Dieguito (9-12-1, 3-4).

City Conference Tournament

Semifinal

St. Augustine 8, La Jolla 6--Craig DaLuz scored three runs, including the game-winner on Javier Pamus’ squeeze bunt in the top of the eighth inning.
