Five County Prep Games Among the Postponements

Five high school baseball games involving Orange County teams were postponed Friday because of continuing violence in the Los Angeles area.
In the Angelus League, host Mater Dei’s game against Los Angeles Loyola was postponed because of the sunset-to-sunrise curfew in Los Angeles.
“We moved the game here, but then the administrators at Loyola realized they wouldn’t likely get back to Los Angeles until after the curfew,” Mater Dei Coach Bob Ickes said. “As of now, I don’t know when we’ll reschedule the game.”
In the Olympic League, host Orange Lutheran’s game against Brethren Christian was postponed until Monday because many of the students at Brethren Christian live in Los Angeles County.
Three schools in the Santa Ana Unified School District--Santa Ana, Santa Ana Valley and Saddleback--had games postponed when Superintendent Rudy Castrita announced that almost all extra-curricular activities in the district had been postponed.
“We’ve learned today in checking around that most events within Santa Ana are being canceled for a precautionary matter because of the riots in L.A.,” spokeswoman Diane Thomas said. “We felt it was the appropriate thing to do, just as a precaution.”
The postponed games included Santa Ana Valley at El Modena; Fountain Valley at Santa Ana and Saddleback at Tustin. The games tentatively have been rescheduled for Monday.
Mel Franks, sports information director at Cal State Fullerton, said tonight’s fund-raising auction for Titan athletics would go on as scheduled at 7:30 p.m. in the new UC Pavilion on campus.
