Aztec Women Sign 2 Players

Beth Burns, San Diego State women’s basketball coach, announced Monday she has signed San Diego Mesa College players Rochelle Johnson and Sorii Epps.

Epps and Johnson played their high school basketball at Patrick Henry High.

Johnson, a 6-foot forward, was named player of the year in Southern California Community Colleges. She finished her career as Mesa’s all-time leading scorer (1,313) and rebounder (797). Johnson also set the school single-game scoring record with 45 points against Palomar in 1991.

Epps, a 5-9 guard, is the all-time assist leader at Mesa with 296 and she averaged 19.9 during her career. Epps was also selected defensive player of the year in Southern California.

The University of San Diego signed Nya Oxfeldt Jensen, a 6-3, 180-pound center from Copenhagen, Denmark. She will become the first foreign player in the history of the program. Jensen, who played on a Danish club national champion team in 1990, will come to USD as a sophomore.
