Dunham to Resign Post in Moorpark Athletics

Paul Dunham, athletic director at Moorpark College, is retiring after 25 years as a coach and administrator at the school. Dunham has served as athletic director for the past 20 years and also coached football (five years), baseball (one year), tennis (three years) and golf (four years).
His 1980 golf team won a state championship and the 1970 football team captured the Western State Conference title.
“I’m going to miss being at the college,” Dunham said. “I’ve surrounded myself with some great people. I’m going to miss the relationships I’ve developed with those people and I’m going to miss the students.”
No replacement for Dunham has been named.
The first round of the City Section boys’ volleyball playoffs has been rescheduled for today as a result of the violence in the Los Angeles area last week. The playoffs originally were scheduled to start Tuesday, but last Thursday’s seeding meeting was delayed until Monday. Quarterfinal-round play will be moved to Friday.
Taft, the Northwest Valley Conference champion, was seeded second behind University. The Toreadors will play host to Hamilton today at 2:30 p.m.
Other area squads in the 16-team field and their first-round opponents: Reseda (No. 14) at Palisades (No. 3); Cleveland (No. 7) at Westchester (No. 10); Granada Hills (No. 9) at South Gate (No. 8); San Pedro (No. 11) at Chatsworth (No. 6); and Kennedy (No. 13) at Roosevelt (No. 4).
UCLA first baseman Ryan McGuire, a former standout at El Camino Real High, was among 40 players selected Tuesday to participate in the U.S. Olympic baseball trials in Millington, Tenn., June 8-14.
McGuire, a sophomore, led El Camino Real to the City Section 4-A Division final in 1990. The Olympic candidates were selected by USA Baseball and Olympic Coach Ron Fraser.
Tomislav Zelenovic, the No. 1 singles player for the Cal Lutheran men’s tennis team, was selected Sunday by the West Region advisory committee to play in the NCAA Division III men’s individual championships May 18-21 at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.
Zelenovic, from Rijeka, Yugoslavia, is ranked 26th in Division III.
