Forum Card to Feature Undefeated Gonzalez

Undefeated Carlos (Bolillo) Gonzalez of Mexico City makes his Forum debut Monday night when he fights Tim Brooks of Sacramento in a scheduled 10-round super-lightweight bout.

Gonzalez (30-0, 29 knockouts) has knocked out 17 of his opponents in the first round. Brooks is 13-9-1 with 11 KOs.

In a heavyweight bout, Dave Dixon (11-1, 10 KOs) of Los Angeles meets Lionel Butler (11-10-1, seven KOs) of North Hollywood. Butler has knocked out his past five opponents, including four in the first round.

In a lightweight bout, David Sample (17-0, six KOs) of Las Vegas fights Ramon (Giant Killer) Zavala (14-6, 10 KOs) of Los Angeles.

Preliminary bouts open the card at 7.

Daron Kirkreit pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10 to lead ninth-ranked UC Riverside to a 2-0 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. game Thursday.

The Toros (22-23-1, 12-15 in conference) will play at Riverside at 7:30 tonight and play host to the Highlanders at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Riverside (30-19, 18-10) trails Cal Poly San Luis Obispo by one-half game in the conference standings.

Dominguez Hills has won five of its past seven games, including two victories over CCAA opponent Cal Poly Pomona. The Toros defeated the Broncos, 11-10, in 15 innings on Tuesday and 11-9 on Wednesday to eliminate them from title contention.

In Wednesday’s game, juniors Ariel Martin and Erik Russell each hit two home runs.

Martin, a switch-hitter, became the first Toro to hit home runs from each side of the plate.

Dominguez Hills has been led by outfielder Ernie Soto and catcher Shawn Wickoff. Soto is batting .347 with three home runs and 29 runs batted in and Wickoff is batting .331. Junior starter Tom Ball is 8-4 and leads the CCAA with a 2.10 earned-run average.

Early registration for Pop Warner Football of Torrance will be held for players and cheerleaders ages 7-14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Victor E. Benstead Plunge, 3331 W. Torrance Blvd.

Registration will also be held at the same time and site May 16 and 30.

The cost is $190 a team.
