ROUNDUP : Moorpark’s Santiago No-Hits Grossmont

Moorpark College’s Heather Santiago tossed her first no-hitter of the season Friday to lead the fifth-seeded Raiders to an 8-0 victory over Grossmont in a first-round game of the Southern California junior college regional playoffs at Cypress College.

Santiago (21-6), a freshman from Simi Valley High, struck out five and walked three.

Tami Kauffman went four for four and scored four runs to lead Moorpark (30-10).

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Southern California regional--Mai-Chi Tieu of Pierce won a pair of singles matches to advance to the semifinals today in Palm Springs.

Tieu defeated Jennifer Kocek of Desert, 6-4, 6-2, in the round of 16. In the afternoon quarterfinal, Tieu defeated Debbie Yoo of El Camino, 6-3, 6-3.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Cal Lutheran 14, Whittier 0--Darrell McMillin was three for four with two runs batted in and Eric Johnson was three for five with three RBIs in for Cal Lutheran (34-3, 18-1) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Whittier.

BASEBALL

Hueneme 12, Oxnard 0--Juan Tostado (3-0) pitched a no-hitter to lead Hueneme to a Channel League win at home. Tostado, a junior left-hander, struck out seven and walked two. Tostado also hit a triple and drove in a run.

Rio Mesa 5, Dos Pueblos 3--Jon McMullen, Hernan Martinez and John Guillen each had two hits to help the Spartans (15-5-2, 10-2) clinch at least a share of their third consecutive Channel League title.

Hart 7, San Gabriel 5--Ted Keister was two for two with two sacrifice flies as Hart (19-2, 12-0) came from behind in a Foothill League game.

Oak Park 2, Moorpark 1--Jeff Gibbons (8-1) avenged his only loss this season by tossing a two-hitter with eight strikeouts to beat Moorpark (16-2, 10-1) in a Tri-Valley League game.

Simi Valley 16, Agoura 3--Aaron Whitley homered, had four hits and five RBIs and teammate Aaron Fischer homered, had three hits and five RBIs for Simi Valley (17-6, 9-3) in a Marmonte League rout at Agoura.

Channel Islands 15, Thousand Oaks 2--Sophomore Ysidro Alfaro was three for four and scored four runs to lead host Channel Islands (20-4, 9-3) in a Marmonte League rout. Chris Fullmer had two hits and three RBIs and George Macias drove in three runs.

Camarillo 3, Royal 0--Robby Lanouette (3-3) of Camarillo (11-10, 4-8) went the distance, striking out nine and allowing three hits in a Marmonte League game. Royal fell to 14-7, 8-4.

Burroughs 1, Schurr 0--Troy Wilson’s two-out double in the first drove in the only run in a Foothill League game against host Burroughs (8-13, 5-8). Mike Bassett allowed seven hits and struck out four.

Glendale 5, Pasadena 0--Senior right-hander Jason Greenberg (6-4) and reliever David Gantt combined for a one-hitter in a Pacific League game at Glendale.

Arcadia 12, Hoover 6--Nate Dishington homered for the third consecutive game and drove in three runs, but it wasn’t enough for Hoover (10-8-1, 5-7-1) in a Pacific League game at Arcadia.

El Camino Real 5, Reseda 4--Mike Smith’s run-scoring single in the sixth inning broke a 4-4 tie in a West Valley League game. El Camino Real (13-6, 9-5) moved into a tie with Taft for the league lead.

Newbury Park 3, Westlake 2--The Panthers (12-10, 7-5) scored two runs in the fifth inning on one hit and four errors for a 3-2 lead in a Marmonte League game. Tim Farris (7-2) allowed five hits for the Panthers. Newbury Park’s Robert Fick went two for three.

Crescenta Valley 8, Muir 5--Josh Willis’ run-scoring single in the sixth broke a 5-5 tie and the Falcons (9-11-1, 5-7-1) went on to win the Pacific League game.

St. Bonaventure 10, Bishop Diego 7--The Seraphs (9-10, 5-6) overcame a four-run deficit by scoring seven runs in the seventh in a Tri-Valley League game.

Calabasas 3, Fillmore 2--Sophomore right-hander Josh Morton threw a three-hitter in a Frontier League game. He also had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 19 games. Mehul Taylor was three for four for Calabasas (8-11, 4-7).

Montclair Prep 16, Western Christian 1--Brad Fullmer hit his 10th home run for Montclair Prep in an Alpha League game.

Channel League finals--Oxnard sophomore Gabriella Rodriguez timed 5:11.4 and 11:22.8, respectively, to win the 1,600 and 3,200 at UC Santa Barbara.

BOYS’ TRACK

San Fernando League finals--Defending Southern Section 1-A Division champion Jesse Stern of Harvard-Westlake cleared a personal-best 15 feet 3 inches to win the pole vault over St. Francis’ Howie Smith (14-0) at Harvard.

Dave Moran of Harvard was the only triple winner of the meet, taking the 400 meters (50.0), long jump (22-10) and triple jump (44-9 3/4). Teammate Jeremiah Aguolu won the 100 in 10.5 and 200 in 22.0.

Channel League finals--Mike Brown of Hueneme held off San Marcos’ Carlos Shields down the stretch to win the 400, 49.2 seconds to 49.5, at UC Santa Barbara. Brown also won the 200, timing 22.5. Ventura’s Justin Werth put the shot 51 feet 7 inches to win that event by almost three feet and threw the discus 158-6 to win by more than 18 feet.

Golden League finals--Canyon’s Kirk Sweetnam and Quartz Hill’s Dan Prince both stormed to 38.9-second clockings in the 300 intermediate hurdles, but Sweetnam outleaned Prince at the finish line at College of the Canyons.

Sweetnam won the 110 high hurdles in 14.8.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

University d. Granada Hills, 15-0, 15-7, 15-8--Mike Agustin had 11 kills for Granada Hills (9-5) in a loss to top-seeded University (13-2) in the quarterfinals of the City 4-A playoffs.

Poly d. Van Nuys, 6-15, 15-8, 15-9, 15-13--Juan Aynat had 15 kills to lead Poly in the quarterfinals of the City 3-A playoffs.

Chatsworth d. Roosevelt, 16-14, 11-15, 13-15, 15-4, 15-6--Dan Nash had 34 kills and Marty Tack 21 to lead Chatsworth (10-4) in the City 4-A quarterfinals.

Royal d. Westlake, 15-3, 15-4, 15-9--Brett Osterhoudt had nine kills for Royal in a Marmonte League finale. Royal (17-0, 14-0) has not lost a league match or game in four years.
