Taylor, the State Division II cross-country champion and defending Division 3-A champion at 800 meters, hadn’t lost a race in either track or cross-country this school year before she finished third in the 800 at the Orange County Championships, behind Barbara Boisvert of Orange Lutheran and Christie Engesser of Ocean View, April 25. Friday, Taylor went head-to-head with Engesser in the Sunset League finals and won in 2 minutes 13.59 seconds, her fastest 800 time of the season. Taylor passed Engesser early in the second lap and held on. “It wasn’t revenge,” Taylor said. Taylor, who has the nation’s best prep time in the 1,600 this season, won the 1,600 at the league finals and will attempt to win both events at the Southern Section Championships. She also ran a leg for the Chargers’ winning 1,600 relay team. Edison won every running event except for the 400 relay and the two hurdles events.

* Catherine Pharris, who was named swimmer of the meet after winning the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke to lead Villa Park to the Century League championship.
