In the Empire League:
Esperanza 3, Cypress 0--Esperanza scored twice in the first inning when Stephanie Thompson singled to left with runners on first and second, and the left fielder allowed the ball to get past her for a two-base error. Wendy Harrison had two hits and an RBI for Esperanza (5-17, 2-8), which upset Cypress, ranked No. 7 in the county. Cypress is 7-3 in league.
El Dorado 3, Katella 2--Nikki Hart scored the winning run for the Hawks (14-10, 5-5) after stealing home following a throw by the Katella pitcher to second base.
In the Freeway League:
La Habra 6, Sonora 0--Dani Ortega pitched her seventh no-hitter, striking out 14, and Sara Mallett had two hits, one run scored and one RBI for the visiting Highlanders (22-2, 10-0).
Sunny Hills 5, Fullerton 0--Bernie Fancubuerta pitched a one-hitter, Brandi Hayes drove in two runs with a fourth-inning double and Stacy Thurber was three for three, stole two bases and scored two runs for the host Lancers (13-14, 8-2).
In the Garden Grove League:
Pacifica 2, Bolsa Grande 0--Jennifer Surface pitched a no-hitter and Valerie Downen hit a two-run home run in the first to help the visiting Mariners (19-5, 12-2) clinch their first softball league championship since 1968. Surface (17-5) struck out six. Pacifica did not allow an earned run in 14 league games.
Garden Grove 1, Rancho Alamitos 0 (9)--With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, freshman Wendi Griffin drove in Briana Corona with the game-winning run for the Argonauts (17-8-1, 10-3-1).
Kennedy 6, Los Amigos 0--Pitching her first no-hitter of the season, freshman Lisa Pitt walked one and struck out seven for the visiting Fighting Irish (19-6, 11-3).
In the Orange League:
Magnolia 6, Savanna 2--Remy Amaro had a single, double and triple and scored two runs for host Magnolia (4-14, 2-8).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Estancia 18, Costa Mesa 2--Tasha Gilmore had four hits and five RBIs, including a bases-loaded double in the third, for the visiting Eagles (8-12, 6-4).
Trabuco Hills 9, Century 0--Christy Lunceford hit a three-run home run in the third and Amy Rodriguez pitched a four-hitter for visiting Trabuco Hills (18-9, 8-2).
In the Sea View League:
University 14, Corona del Mar 1 (4 1/2, mercy rule)--The host Trojans (16-10, 6-3) scored six runs in each of the first and third innings to clinch third place and a playoff spot.
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 2, Dana Hills 0--Daniela Hugelshofer pitched a three-hitter and had an RBI single for the visiting Cougars (11-10-2, 6-4), who clinched a playoff spot.
El Toro 1, Mission Viejo 0--Wendi Melville’s first-inning groundout drove in Debbi Davis, and Misty Lauby (14-3) pitched a three-hitter for the visiting Chargers (21-8-1, 10-0). Jodi Lemire allowed five hits for the Diablos (9-14, 5-5).
In the Sunset League:
Marina 7, Santa Ana 0--Marcy Crouch had a no-hitter with nine strikeouts for Marina (17-5, 10-2). Julie Luft went three for three and had two RBIs for the host Vikings.
Huntington Beach 10, Edison 0 (5, mercy rule)--Stefanie Noffsinger and Brooke Bowden combined for a perfect game for the Oilers. Noffsinger, who pitched four of the five innings, also had a home run.
