BASEBALL: DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Trammell Out for 6 Weeks
Shortstop Alan Trammell of the Detroit Tigers was put on the 15-day disabled list with a broken bone in his right ankle and said he will be out at least six weeks.
Trammell injured the ankle while beating out an infield hit Friday night at Kansas City.
Bill Swift, 6-0 with a 1.78 ERA for the San Francisco Giants, will miss today’s start against the Chicago Cubs because of what Manager Roger Craig called minor tightness in his shoulder. . . . Former Dodger Shawn Hillegas, cut by the Cleveland Indians in the final week of spring training, was called up by the New York Yankees. The right-handed pitcher faced two batters Saturday against Oakland, retiring Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco on fly balls. . . . The Cincinnati Reds activated first baseman Hal Morris, who was on the disabled list since April 15, when he was hit by a pitch from Atlanta’s Charlie Leibrandt and broke his right hand.
