Prohibited Practice to Cost Simi Valley 2 Spring Workouts

Share

The Simi Valley High football team will not conduct spring practices Tuesday or Wednesday as penalty for holding a prohibited after-school practice last week, Simi Valley Coach Stan Quina said Saturday. The Southern Section concurs with the penalty, which was imposed by Simi Valley Principal Dave Ellis.

Section rules state that teams can meet during only one class period in the school day. In what Quina said was a misinterpretation of the rules, Simi Valley held a study hall during the time frame in which the football P.E. class was held, and then practiced after school.

The Southern Section last week directed the school to investigate the incident.

“We didn’t try to get away with anything,” Quina said. “We made an honest mistake.”

The first day Southern Section schools are allowed to hold after-school workouts in the spring is Monday.
