Rancho Bernardo d. San Pasqual, 15-11, 15-5, 13-15, 11-15, 15-8--Second-year Rancho Bernardo was 5-6 last year but is now a match away from winning the section title after upsetting San Pasqual for the first time. Rancho Bernardo (13-3) was beaten by the Golden Eagles (16-2), the Avocado League champion, twice during league play.
“Nobody will remember the first two times they beat us,” Rancho Bernardo Coach Rob Sills said. “They’ll just remember this one.”
Junior Matt Hyden led Rancho Bernardo with 28 kills, while senior middle blocker Kirk Hipple had 14 kills and 14 blocks.
