HIGH SCHOOL PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Hoover’s Evans Perfect in 1-0 Win Over Lakewood

Nancy Evans of Hoover High pitched her second perfect game and seventh no-hitter of the season to spark the visiting Tornadoes to an 11-inning, 1-0 victory over Lakewood in a second-round game of the Southern Section 4-A Division softball playoffs Tuesday.

Evans (23-3), a junior, struck out 19.

Kelly Christiansen singled to start the decisive inning, then stole second. She scored on a broken hit-and-run play.

Hoover (23-3) will play Hart, a winner over Santa Monica, in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

In other softball games:

Crescenta Valley 3, Millikan 0--Stacy Atwood pitched a three-hitter, drove in one run and scored another as the host Falcons (20-4) won a second-round 4-A game.

Atwood and Kim Welsh had run-scoring singles in the sixth, accounting for Crescenta Valley’s only hits.

Atwood scored in the first when she was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and came home on an errant throw.

Crescenta Valley will play Foothill, a 2-0 winner over Diamond Bar, on Thursday.

Hart 10, Santa Monica 3--Danielle Bragdon droves in five runs as the Indians (20-7) won a second-round 4-A game at Santa Monica.

Bragdon had a two-run single in Hart’s seven-run first.

La Reina 11, Harvard-Westlake 0--Michelle Nuesca, Jennifer Brant and Shane Anderson each had two hits and two runs batted in for the Regents (15-4) in a second-round 1-A game at home.

La Reina pitcher Michelle St. Pierre threw six no-hit innings until Lindsay Sloane, Harvard-Westlake’s pitcher, led off the seventh with a single up the middle. St. Pierre (13-3) settled for a one-hitter and struck out eight.

Moorpark 4, Western Christian 2--Cara Shea pitched a two-hitter and struck out nine as the host Musketeers (21-4-1) won a second-round 1-A game. Shea also had two hits and scored twice.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Quartz Hill 10, Nordhoff 8--The host Rebels lost six of seven matches in singles play but won seven of nine in doubles to advance to the semifinals of the Southern Section 2-A Division playoffs.

Charlie Stoll and Kenny Park were 3-0 in doubles play for Quartz Hill (22-0).
