Billy Blanton, Mater Dei’s designated hitter, believes the Monarchs’ chances of winning football, basketball and baseball titles in the same season are good.
“I have the same feeling on this team (baseball) that I did on our football team,” said Blanton, who led Mater Dei to the Division I football championship. “It’s easy to relate to the guys on this team because so many of them played on our football team. . . . Now that we’ve started hitting, I really like our chances.”
Mater Dei has outscored Marina and Riverside Poly, 24-0, heading into its quarterfinal game against El Dorado Friday.
