Long Beach Millikan 5, La Puente Bishop Amat 0--Defending 5-A champion Millikan (21-5-1) relied on solid pitching to continue its impressive showing in the playoffs. Ty Hindman and Greg Gregory combined for a four-hitter to lead the Rams.

Millikan broke the game open with two runs in the fifth inning to go ahead, 3-0, and added two in the sixth. Center fielder Scott Allen was two for four and had two runs batted in.

Bishop Amat finished 22-6.

Irvine 4, Covina Northview 2--Irvine (20-10) advanced to the 4-A championship for the first time after knocking off Northview (19-6) at Rancho Santiago College.

Irvine scored twice in the fourth without hitting a ball out of the infield, combining an infield single, a walk, an error and three fielder’s choices for the runs.

Pasadena Poly 10, Santa Ana Calvary Chapel 9--Ricardo Verboomen’s sacrifice fly in the sixth inning lifted Poly (20-3) to a Small Schools Division victory at San Marino High in a game that featured 20 walks, seven errors, eight wild pitches, a balk and one hit batsman.

Poly, which will face Riverside Bethel Christian for the championship at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Cal State-Fullerton, took a 3-0 first-inning lead.

Poly pitcher Jeff Rakow (11-1) tripled in one run and scored on Danny Fuller’s balk. Fuller then forced in two more runs with bases-loaded walks.
