After Wednesday’s quarterfinals at Poway, the top four seeded singles players and three of the top four seeded doubles teams advanced to today’s semifinals in the San Diego Section boys’ tennis individual championships.

The only break in order came in the doubles draw, where the second-seeded of Jonathon Gilula and Fred Danielson from La Jolla were upset by unseeded teammates Brett Johnson and Carl Adams, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Top-seeded Jamie Saben and Patrick O’Neill of Valhalla got a scare from ninth-seeded David Walden and Rob Cruden of Poway, dropping the first set before rebounding, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. Third-seeded Brian Kintz and Mike Spector of Patrick Henry and fourth-seeded Simon Shen and Eric Wang of La Jolla won in straight sets.

In singles, the showdown between La Jolla teammates and former doubles partners James Conda and Jon Elsberry is a day away, that is if the top two seeded players win their semifinals today against third-seeded Joe Barbarie of University City and Tim Burke of Torrey Pines.

Today’s semifinals at Rancho Arbolitos begin at 3 p.m.
