Brea Coach Trakh Will Interview for Titan Women’s Basketball Job

Mark Trakh, the most successful high school girls’ basketball coach in Orange County history, said Friday he will interview Monday for the Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball coaching job.

Trakh has a 325-40 record and has won five Southern Section titles in 12 seasons at Brea-Olinda. The Ladycats also have won three State titles in the past four seasons.

This is the second time Trakh has applied for the Fullerton job; he was passed over for Maryalyce Jeremiah in 1985. Jeremiah resigned after last season to become associate athletic director and senior women’s administrator for the Titans.

Jody Anton, The Times’ Orange County girls’ basketball player of the year, will play for a Southern Section all-star team at 5 p.m. Sunday in a game against Santa Barbara all-stars at Santa Barbara City College.

Anton, who will attend USC in the fall, scored 1,674 points in four seasons at Brea-Olinda.

Rancho Alamitos guard Shannon James also will play. Wendell Yoshida, who led Palos Verdes Peninsula to the State Division I championship, will coach the section all-stars.

Practice will begin at 5 p.m. Monday for the South team that will participate in the 33rd Orange County all-star football game, scheduled for July 10 at Orange Coast College.

South Coach Bruce Rollinson of Mater Dei said the team will practice without pads Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and continue Monday, June 29. Practices will be at Mater Dei.

Rollinson said the team will hold an intrasquad scrimmage at 9 a.m. July 4.

Gina Bailey, girls’ softball coach at Santa Margarita, has resigned to pursue her teaching credential. Bailey led Santa Margarita to a 7-13 record in her only season as coach.
