LOCAL NOTES : Gragnano, Havens Transfer From Nebraska

Former Los Alamitos High School football stars Todd Gragnano and Brian Havens have left the University of Nebraska.

Gragnano, a sophomore quarterback, has transferred to the University of Louisville, where he will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 1993. Gragnano ranks fourth on the county’s career passing list with 6,098 yards.

Havens has transferred to California, where he will also have two years of eligibility remaining. Both players were arrested in Lincoln, Neb., in February for their roles in an off-campus fight between football and baseball players.

Woodbridge High wide receiver Glen Edwards and Westminster offensive lineman Howard Tofua have been added to the South team that will participate in the 33rd Orange County all-star football game Friday at Orange Coast College.

North linebacker Matt Finch suffered a broken left ankle in practice Wednesday but has yet to be replaced on the 35-man roster by Coach Jeff Buenafe of Garden Grove.

Debbie Graham of Fountain Valley and Jonathan Stark of Medford, Ore., were eliminated by Jacco Eltingh and Miriam Oremans of the Netherlands, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, in a quarterfinal mixed doubles match at Wimbledon.

Andy Kendrick edged Ricky Wood by a quarter-point to win the men’s one-meter springboard diving title at the Southern California Invitational at Heritage Park in Irvine.

Mission Viejo Nadadores Dive Team teammates Jason Hubbart and Tyce Routson were seventh and ninth respectively.

In age-group competition, Erica Sorgi of Mission Viejo was second in the girls’ 13-and-under platform and teammate Amy Sloane was third in the girls’ 14-15 platform.

David Warady of Huntington Beach won his second consecutive stage, his sixth overall, in the Runner’s World Trans America Footrace, completing the 29 miles from Monroe to Salina, Utah in 4 hours 40 minutes 50 seconds.

Warady leads the race by 5:07:40 over Richard Westbrook of Jonesboro, Ga.

The Kokoro Volleyball Club of Huntington Beach placed teams in the top 10 in the boys’ 18-and-under and 16-and-under divisions in the U.S. Volleyball Assn. Junior Olympic national championships in Albuquerque.

Kokoro’s 18-and-under team was ninth in a field of 68 and defeated the Balboa Bay Club of Newport Beach in the semifinals of the Silver division, 14-16, 15-12, 15-11.

Kokoro was led by Woodbridge High School setter David Newman, El Toro High’s Mike Gledhill and Fountain Valley’s Joon Kang.

Kokoro’s 16-and-under team was seventh in a field of 41, defeating a team from Kamali, Hawaii, 15-13, 14-16, 17-16, in the seventh-place game.
