All-Star Football Game to Be Played on Friday

The 13th Hall of Fame high school all-star football game will be played Friday night at 8 at Citrus College.

Eighty recent graduates from the San Gabriel Valley will participate in the game, which benefits the scholarship fund of the National Football Foundation’s student-athlete program.

Quarterback Marc Ruiz of Baldwin Park, The Times’ San Gabriel Valley Player of the Year last season, will play for the East team.

Rosemead quarterback Matt Koffler, who has signed a letter of intent with USC, will play for the West.

The East leads the series, 7-3. There have been two ties.

San Gabriel Valley football players will also take part in the second Fiesta Bowl all-star game Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Wilson High in Los Angeles.

The game is between teams from the West San Gabriel Valley and the Eastside.

South Pasadena’s Jeff Chi and Dave Martinez will coach the West Valley team, which includes players from Baldwin Park, South Pasadena, Alhambra, Mountain View, Keppel, San Gabriel, Rosemead, Duarte and Arroyo.

The Phillips Ranch Soccer Club will host a clinic presented by North American Soccer Camps Monday through July 24 in Pomona.

The 31st Glendora tennis tournament will be held from July 25 to Aug. 2.

The tournament, sanctioned by the United States Tennis Assn., features adult, class and junior divisions.

Entry fees are $22 for singles and $24 for doubles. Trophies and awards will be presented to all finalists, and $3,000 in prize money will be distributed to various adult champions.

The Bonita High volleyball program is sponsoring a grass-court tournament July 25.

Competition will be held in men’s A and B doubles and women’s B doubles. Prizes will be awarded to the top two teams in each division.

The Amateur Athletic Foundation Rose Bowl Aquatic Center is sponsoring a triathlon July 26 at the facility in the Arroyo Seco area of Pasadena.

The event includes a three-mile run, 10-mile bike stage and a 400-meter swim.
