Lunde Stumbles to First-Round 81

Poway’s Bill Lunde shot an 81 and was 13 strokes behind the leader after the first round of qualifying stroke play at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championships. Tiger Woods of Cypress leads with a 68 at the par-71 Wollaston Golf Club in Milton, Mass.

Ron Guiles, 28, who graduated from San Pasqual High in 1982 and has been teaching there for five years, was named head coach of the boys’ basketball varsity team earlier this week, athletic director Gordon Marsh announced.

For the past four years Guiles was assistant coach to Tom Buck, who stepped down this past spring.
