LOCAL NOTES : Brea-Olinda Standout Priess Signs to Play Baseball at San Luis Obispo

Matt Priess, an All-Orange League catcher from Brea-Olinda High School, has signed a letter of intent to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, his father said.
Priess, a member of the North team in the Orange County all-star game, had 29 hits, including 11 doubles, last season for Brea-Olinda, which tied Valencia for the Orange League title. Priess had planned to attend UC Irvine until the Anteaters dropped their program last spring.
Priess was also a standout goalie on the Brea-Olinda water polo team.
David Warady of Huntington Beach extended his lead in the Runner’s World Trans America Footrace, finishing sixth in the 45th stage from New Berlin to Decatur, Ill.
Warady finished the 55.85-mile stage in 10 hours 51 minutes 16 seconds and leads second-place Tom Rogozinski of Pittsburgh by 4:47:46.
Emile Laharrague of France won the stage in 8:38:14.
With 19 stages remaining, the runners have now traveled 2,035 miles.
Seana Hogan of San Jose passed through Reidsville, Ga., 2,909 miles into the Race Across America, at 6:31 p.m. PDT, and was expected to become the first woman to reach the finish in Savannah, Ga., early this morning.
Debbie Turner of Mobile, Ala., in second place in the women’s division, is expected to finish early this evening.
