*OUTLOOK

Every coach in the league is anxious about the Knights because of Meiss. This is the third program he will attempt to resurrect. He returned Santa Ana to power in the early 1980s. He then took over at Orange in 1989 and took the Panthers to the Division VIII title game. Now he’s at Foothill, which hasn’t had a winning season since 1986. “I think Foothill is going to jump up on everyone,” El Modena Coach Bill Backstrom said. “You never know what Tom has got going.” One thing he’s got is some muscle. No one will be pushing the Knights around up front. They did a lot of bulking up over the summer. Taub has some speed to make use of that line. He was part of a 1,600-meter relay that set an Orange County record. Quarterback could be a problem. Chaix and Wielandt shared the job last season.
