Sierra Madre : Chantry Flats Fire Monitors
Two fires in nine months have prompted hillside homeowners to monitor vehicles traveling up Chantry Flats Road during fire season.
Caroline Brown, a member of the Hillside Management Task Force, said some homeowners had set up lawn chairs at the road’s entrance and taken down license numbers, but they now are seeking video surveillance by the city.
Brown said the licenses, makes and models of cars passing by will only be examined after a fire, to help determine its origin. She said the neighbors, acting as a private fire prevention group, plan to raise money for the equipment.
The city took no action on the request for video surveillance.
