Newbury Park 35, Hueneme 20--Newbury Park quarterback Keith Smith started the follow-up to a record-breaking 1991 season by completing 19 of 27 passes for 321 yards with five touchdowns and one interception at Hueneme.
Despite Smith’s performance, Newbury Park showed considerable balance by racking up an additional 205 yards on the ground to bring the Panthers’ total offense to 526 yards.
Wide receiver Jason Toohey caught eight passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Leodes Van Buren added five receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown.
Hueneme quarterback David Andrade completed 18 of 39 for 216 yards. Andrade added a game-high 109 yards rushing with a touchdown for a total of 325 all-purpose yards. Hueneme wide receiver Tyrone Brown caught seven passes for 88 yards
