For those who thought last year’s run at the City Section 3-A Division title was a fluke, Chatsworth High served notice Friday night at Los Angeles High.

The Chancellors, who fell to Crenshaw in the final last year, opened 1992 with a resounding performance, routing Los Angeles, 50-0.

Running back Nester Davila scored two touchdowns and quarterback David Muir threw for 122 yards and two touchdowns to lead Chatsworth in a nonleague game.

Davila rushed eight times for 110 yards and scored on runs of 56 and eight yards while playing only the first half. Muir completed 10 of 14 passes and threw two interceptions. He had scoring passes of 21 and nine yards before he was lifted midway through the third quarter.

His replacement, Patrick Murphy, completed all six of his passes for 66 yards and one score.

Chatsworth scored on its first three possessions to take a 21-0 first-quarter lead.

After putting together scoring drives of 65 and 66 yards, the Chancellors recovered a fumbled punt snap at the Los Angeles one-yard line. Rozheh Nahapetian ran into the end zone on the next play.

When Muir completed a nine-yard scoring pass to Desmond Armstrong in the third quarter, the lead had grown to 34-0, allowing Coach Myron Gibford to clear the bench.
