Orange Lutheran Comes Up Short Against Murphy

After an impressive season-opening victory last Saturday, Orange Lutheran Coach Tim Taube thought his team had a fighting chance against Los Angeles Murphy Friday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The Lancers’ offense never got untracked and they lost to the Nobles, 16-3.

It was a tough night for Lancer quarterback Chris Timothy. Timothy, the third-highest-rated quarterback in the county last week, completed three of 18 passes for six yards and was intercepted twice.

“(The Nobles) threw in an extra defense that we hadn’t seen in their game films from last week and that threw us off,” Taube said.

Murphy opened the scoring late in the first quarter on a one-yard run by Louis Williams. The two-point conversion was no good and the Nobles led, 6-0.

Murphy’s Danny Gleason connected on a 25-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to give the Nobles a 9-0 lead.

Orange Lutheran’s best chance for a touchdown came early in the fourth quarter when linebacker Eric Glessner recovered a fumble on the Noble five-yard line. However, four plays by the Lancers netted one yard and the Lancers failed to score.

The only points Orange Lutheran scored came on a 33-yard field goal by Todd Williamson in the fourth quarter.
