Santiago’s Second-Half Miscues Turn Game Over to Sonora

LA HABRA — Sonora forced five second-half turnovers en route to a 28-14 victory over Santiago at La Habra High School Friday night.
Sonora (1-1) led, 15-6, at halftime, but thanks to three fumble recoveries and two interceptions, the Raiders dominated the second half.
Sonora drove 75 yards on 13 plays in the game’s first possession. Robert Knowles capped the drive with a three-yard touchdown run.
Sonora’s defense then held Santiago to three plays and Adam Chez scored on a 65-yard punt return.
Santiago quarterback Louis Perez completed four of four passes on his team’s lone scoring drive in the second quarter. The drive was capped by Minh Nguyen’s 27-yard touchdown run.
Sonora forced turnovers on four consecutive Santiago possessions in the second half.
Perez, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound senior, completed 15 of 26 passes for 201 yards. Santiago is 0-2.
