Chris McCoy kicked a 30-yard field goal with one second remaining to lift St. Francis High to a 24-23 victory over Mary Star in a nonleague game Friday night at St. Francis. The Golden Knights came back from a 23-0 third-quarter deficit.
St. Francis (2-0) took possession on its 44-yard line with 45 seconds to play. On third down, Rudy Martinez completed a 38-yard pass to running back Ben Collins to set up the winning kick.
Martinez completed six of 18 passes for 212 yards and a touchdown. Collins had a 61-yard touchdown catch and a five-yard scoring run. Martinez had scored on a five-yard run with 2 minutes 15 seconds to play to cut the deficit to 23-21.
Sophomore running back Chris McAlister sat out the game, pending an eligibility investigation by the Southern Section.
