SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

On paper, Alemany High had about as much chance of defeating the Hart football team Friday night as those biplanes had of hurting King Kong.

And on the field, the statistics didn’t lie.

Hart, The Times’ top-ranked team in the region, reached out and crushed Alemany, 43-0, in a nonleague game at College of the Canyons.

Hart quarterback Davis Delmatoff completed 11 of 22 passes for 377 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another score.

Hart running back Deriek Charles caught scoring passes of 90 and 87 yards and ran for a 67-yard touchdown. He finished with 87 yards in three carries and caught four passes for a personal-best 212 yards.

Hart (4-0), which entered the game averaging 34 points and 409 yards in offense, amassed 503 against Alemany--403 through the air.

Hart always has been able to put points on the scoreboard, but this year the Indians are also keeping opponents out of the end zone. Led by defensive linemen Scott Blowers (two sacks), Bryan Oksas (two deflected passes) and linebacker Travis Rappleye, Hart recorded its second shutout, limiting Alemany (0-3-1) to 186 yards.

Alemany quarterback Chris Tashima, a converted receiver, completed 11 of 24 for 77 yards and was sacked twice.

Running back David Eastham had 76 yards in 18 carries for Alemany.

Delmatoff struck early and often in the first half, completing eight of 14 for 288 yards and three touchdowns as Hart scored on all five of its possessions.

The senior tossed a four-yard touchdown pass to Mike Neil on Hart’s first series, then next ran for a six-yard touchdown.

On a fourth-down play early in the second period, Charles took a pitch from Delmatoff at the Hart 33 then raced to the outside past Henry Castillo on a 67-yard touchdown run.

On Hart’s next series, Charles, who had 136 yards receiving and 87 yards rushing by halftime, went 90 yards with a shovel pass, once again sidestepping Castillo en route to the end zone.

Hart, running a no-huddle offense the entire game, capped its 36-point half when Delmatoff threw into the flat to Jason Medearis, who outjumped Del Vargas and went 93 yards for the score.

Alemany tight end Chris Engler was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital after the game with an undisclosed back injury.
