Jamie Worthem rushed for 246 yards in 28 carries and scored once, leading Orange to a 6-0 victory over Foothill in the Century League opener for both teams Friday night at Tustin High.

Worthem’s seven-yard touchdown run with 1 minute 14 seconds remaining capped an 80-yard Panther drive and stopped Foothill’s two-game winning streak. It also gave Orange Coach Buddy Bland a victory over his former boss, Foothill Coach Tom Meiss, in the coaches’ first meeting.

Bland, in his second season, was an assistant under Meiss at Orange three seasons ago.

Worthem, a junior, carried the Panthers (3-3, 1-0), accounting for all but 18 of Orange’s 264 yards rushing and 285 yards total offense.

In the fourth quarter, Foothill (3-3, 0-1) drove to the Panthers’ 18, but Kevin McCarthy, a replacement for kicker Jason Vlcek, who was in Maine on a baseball recruiting trip, missed a 26-yard field goal with 6:26 remaining.
