Robert Prince caught three touchdown passes in Servite’s 34-7 Sunset League victory over Westminster Friday night before a capacity crowd at Westminster High.

Prince, who hadn’t scored a touchdown this year, scored on receptions of four, 10 and 18 yards as Servite (4-0-1, 3-0 in league) spoiled the home opener for the Lions (3-3, 1-2).

Quarterback Eric Hannah accounted for the first two Friar touchdowns on a pair of one-yard plunges and the Friar defense kept the Lions out of the end zone for most of the game with timely turnovers.

“They were in our territory a lot and never quit,” said Servite coach Larry Toner.

All three interceptions by Servite were inside the Friar 10-yard line as Jim Ahern, Ryan Smith and Joe Vargas intercepted passes. Vargas also had two fumble recoveries for Servite.

Westminster quarterback Johnny Mahurien, who connected on passes of 14 yards to Cassidy Ranslem and 11 yards to Hung Nguy, scored from the one-yard line to cap the only successful Lion drive. Mahurien completed 16 of 28 passes for 139 yards on the night.

Servite spread the rushing workload among Elphamous Malbrue (87 yards), Ryan Popovich (71) and Steve Correa (42).
