Santa Ana got its first victory of the season Friday night, beating Westminster, 18-13, in a Sunset League game at Santa Ana Stadium.

The Saints (1-6, 1-3) scored every possible way during a three-minute span during the first quarter. Pete Sitagata opened the scoring by catching a five-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Mark Fausto.

Santa Ana took an 8-0 lead when it scored a safety on the ensuing kickoff; the ball got past the Westminster return man, who tried to down it in the end zone.

After the free kick, the Saints drove to the Westminster 25, where their drive stalled and Jorge Perez attempted a 40-yard field goal that hit the left upright and went through, to make the score 11-0 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Westminster running back Gary Frazier broke up the middle on a draw play, going 96 yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion attempt failed. The Lions are 3-4, 1-4.

Santa Ana took an 18-6 lead during the third quarter as Fausto ran seven yards for a touchdown.

The Lions’ Ben Fula Fula caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Johnny Mahurien on the last play of the game.
