Montclair Prep senior running back Eliel Swinton has raised his rushing total in his career to 4,755 yards and is 52 yards short of 10th place on the all-time Southern Section list. He is 165 yards shy of seventh place and 642 from third. The Mounties, who have a bye this week, have two regular-season games remaining.

Football: Four weeks after North Hollywood’s surprising 3-0 start, the Huskies are at 3-4. But signs of improvement from last year are still apparent. The Huskies were shut out in eight games and averaged less than one point a game last season. They average 15.3 points and have scored in every game this year. . . .

For St. Bonaventure, it’s a tale of two offenses. The Seraphs have averaged 34.5 points per game in four wins, and just 6.6 in three losses. . . . Sylmar--which has shut out three opponents--is allowing 5.8 points and averages 32.3. Sylmar ranks as the area’s best offense (350.7 yards) and defense (155.0) among area City teams. . . .

Alemany tailback Brian Van Holten rushed for 106 yards against St. John Bosco last week, becoming the first Indian running back to top the century mark this year. Option quarterback Chris Tashima topped 100 yards earlier. . . .

Burbank quarterback Brian Casey had season-high totals of 190 yards passing and three touchdowns in last week’s 57-19 loss to Saugus. Casey entered the game having thrown just one touchdown pass. . . .

Village Christian’s Ignacio Brache had a string of 18 conversion kicks stopped when one was blocked Saturday. . . .

Parity defined: Only Cleveland (0-4) has a losing record in the Northwest Valley Conference. Five of the remaining seven teams in the conference are 2-2.

Water polo: Harvard-Westlake has been successful on power plays 68% of the time. The Wolverines are scoring at a 40% rate in shorthanded situations. . . Terry Polopink of Agoura broke the school single-season record with three goals against Royal, shattering the old standard of 78. Polopink then had six goals against Westlake to raise his record to 85. . . .

Mark Hawkins of Newbury Park is the leading goalie in Ventura County with 179 saves. Royal’s Ralph Radka is second with 162.

Cross-country: Ryan Wilson of Agoura moved to seventh on the all-time regional list for the three-mile course at Mt. San Antonio College with his time of 15 minutes 3 seconds at the Mt. SAC invitational on Saturday. Burbank’s Jeff Nelson set the Mt. SAC course record of 14:32 in 1978. . . .

Girls’ volleyball: Thousand Oaks had season highs in blocks (43) and digs (73) in a five-game Marmonte League win over Agoura. Gretchen Gulbranson led the Lancers with 14 digs; Carrie Penfield and Jenny Mangels had 12 blocks each. . . Lilibeth Cardano of Valley Alternative broke her school record with 17 aces against Sherman Oaks CES. . . .

La Reina served at a 96.45% efficiency rate (136 of 141) last week in wins over St. Bonaventure and Bishop Diego. . . Canyon’s string of eight consecutive league championships is in jeopardy after Foothill League losses to Hart and first-place Saugus last week. Canyon, which is in second place, moved from the Golden League with Saugus to the Foothill League this fall. . . .

Royal senior Jill Enright was on a possible school-record pace with 21 digs last week when she suffered a sprained ankle early in the fourth game of a five-game loss to Agoura. The school mark is 29. . . Freshman Heather Barrus had seven aces and three digs in her first varsity match as Agoura defeated Royal.
