Santa Maria St. Joseph 47, Santa Paula 6--Cardinal quarterback Brian Whittaker threw three interceptions and Santa Paula lost the ball three times on fumbles in a loss to the top-seeded Knights.

Down 47-0, the Cardinals (3-8) avoided the shutout with 3:18 to play when backup quarterback Jeff Shea hit Joseph Jauregui for a 32-yard score.

Jauregui caught six passes for 71 yards and Steven Gonzalez had seven receptions for 63 yards.

Whittaker finished with 11 completions in 26 attempts.

St. Joseph’s (10-1), the No. 1-seeded team, rushed 40 times for 365 yards.
