OUTLOOK
No matter how you look at it, this figures to be a tough school year for Loara’s athletic teams. Prange said the Saxons will be underdogs in every game they play this season, and he’s probably right. If nothing else, the Saxons are fighting tradition. Loara has not won a league championship since 1965, and that’s not likely to change this season. Pete Gonzalez and Ron Harris, the top two scorers from last season’s team, graduated, leaving a 26-point combined average to replace. Prange will fill the gaps with Davis and Talley, the lone starters back from last season. Davis averaged 9.2 points and was a 43% shooter from three-point range last season. Talley added 4.5 points and will start for the third consecutive season. If nothing else, youth is on Loara’s side. Prange expects to start only one or two seniors. Rob Harris is another young player to watch. It will be a big surprise to see Loara among the league-leaders. Prange’s picks: Esperanza, El Dorado, Los Alamitos, Katella, Cypress and Loara.
