Strong safety Michael Stewart will be activated from the injured-reserve list today, Coach Chuck Knox said Friday.

Backup cornerback Sammy Lilly, who suffered a sprained left knee during last Sunday’s game against Minnesota, will be put on injured reserve.

Stewart, who suffered a broken left forearm Oct. 4 against the San Francisco 49ers, returned to practice this week, wearing a soft pad over the injured area, and said that he felt no major discomfort.

Starting middle linebacker Larry Kelm, who also suffered a sprained left knee last Sunday, worked out without pads Friday after sitting out Wednesday’s and Thursday’s practices. Knox said Kelm’s playing status was uncertain for Sunday night’s game against Tampa Bay.

“We’ll just see how it is tomorrow,” Knox said. “If he’s able to go, fine. If not, Fred Strickland will go.

“(Kelm) could be available in a backup role, if he can’t start.”

Quarterback Jim Everett has had two impressive games against Tampa Bay, including a four-touchdown game during a 35-14 victory at Tampa in 1990. In the two victories combined, Everett completed 73% of his passes and did not throw an interception. . . . The last December game the Rams won was Dec. 2, 1990, at Cleveland, when the Rams beat the Browns, 38-23, to improve to 4-7. They finished 5-11.
