COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Ventura Remains Unbeaten, 81-63

The Ventura College men’s basketball team, which advanced to the state semifinals last season, remained unbeaten by defeating host Valley, 81-63, Tuesday night.

The Pirates (8-0) were led by 6-foot-6 sophomore Calvin Curry, who scored 27 points. Stephan Brown added 16 points for Ventura, which led by 14 at halftime.

Joe Mauldin scored 25 points for Valley (0-9).

In other men’s games:

Pt. Loma 87, The Master’s 82--David Humphrey had 17 points and six assists for visiting Master’s in the NAIA District 3 game. Terry Minnoy had 15 points and Philip Samson added 13 for Master’s (1-5, 0-2). Shawn DeLaittre, the former Simi Valley High standout who is playing for his fourth collegiate team, scored 18 points for Pt. Loma (4-3, 2-0).

Glendale 100, L.A Trade Tech 88--Kenny Collins had 30 points, five assists and three steals for visiting Glendale (4-6) in a nonconference game.

Oxnard 80, Cal Lutheran J.V. 72--Tony Ziuraitis scored 26 points and Lance Fay added 20 to lead Oxnard (7-4) in a nonconference game. Rob Berkerley and Travis Bradley each scored 17 points for the Kingsmen.

WOMEN

Moorpark 75, Mt. San Jacinto 51--Diem Nguyen scored 17 points for Moorpark (5-5) in a nonconference game. Jennifer Barr had 12 rebounds and Diana Cortez added eight assists.

Antelope Valley 64, Cypress 51--Bernice Atkinson scored a personal-high 23 points to lead Antelope Valley to a nonconference victory.

Sasha Garrison added 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Christi Huff had 13 points and six assists for Antelope Valley (5-5).

Christ College 86, Cal Lutheran 63--The host Eagles (6-1) held a 21-point lead at halftime and coasted to a nonconference victory. Gitte Mejer scored a team-high 19 points for Cal Lutheran (3-4) and Wendy Johnson had 18.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 66, The Master’s 60--The Mustangs fell behind, 44-25, at halftime in a nonconference game. Tricia Plummer led Master’s with 13 points.
