With the victory, Cerritos (3-0) advances to Friday’s championship against Thousand Oaks, which routed Cypress, 60-32, in the other semifinal Wednesday.

“We knew we had to slow them down,” Savanna Coach John Mahler said. “Unfortunately, we forgot there are baskets at both ends. In our effort to slow them down, we slowed ourselves down.”

Indeed, after outscoring the bigger and quicker Cerritos, 6-4, in the first quarter, Savanna scored just 13 points the rest of the way, including a goose egg in the fourth quarter.

Cerritos slowly got its offense in sync against the pesky Rebels. With Farrah Wynne leading the way with a game-high 14 points, the Dons got untracked with 33 second-half points.

Sara Works led Savanna with 10 points.

In the other Savanna Tournament semifinal:

Thousand Oaks 60, Cypress 32--Marion Jones scored 23 points as fast-breaking Thousand Oaks (3-0) raced past Cypress (2-1), which got 14 points from Julie Adams.
