GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Brea Beats Costa Mesa, Advances to Final

Brea-Olinda center Colleen Hudson scored 32 points to lead the Ladycats into the championship final of their tournament with a 75-63 victory over Costa Mesa in Friday night’s semifinals at Brea-Olinda High School.

Hudson was unstoppable inside, scoring 21 points in the first half and hitting 13 of 16 shots for the game. When Hudson, a 6-1 junior, wasn’t hitting from underneath, Ladycat forward Lee Moulin was scoring from the outside, hitting five three-point field goals. Moulin finished with 19 points.

Brea-Olinda (7-0) will meet Playa del Rey St. Bernard at 7:30 tonight for the tournament championship.

Costa Mesa (4-3) fell behind early as Hudson dominated play and Mustang scoring leader Olivia DiCamilli couldn’t find her shooting touch until the fourth quarter. DiCamilli finished with 26 points, but she missed 12 of her first 14 shots.

Leading, 42-31, early in the third quarter, the Ladycats went on a 14-2 streak to take a 56-33 lead on Hudson’s basket with 7 minutes 38 seconds left in the game. Brea led, 63-38, on another Hudson basket with 5:18 remaining, but a Mustang full-court press cut the lead to 10 with 1:51 left.

A four-point play by Kiyoko Miller with 1:29 left boosted the Ladycat lead to 69-55.
