Hura rushed 26 times and gained 149 yards as he helped the Matadores beat San Marino, 28-7, in the CIF Southern Section Division VIII title game. Hura ran for 118 yards in the second half as the Matadores outscored San Marino, 21-0. Hura scored one touchdown on a 24-yard screen pass.
Other top prep performers:
Jacobi Thompson, a former Pius X basketball player who transferred to Compton High, scored 52 points as he led the Tarbabes to three wins. He scored 19 in a 63-54 win over Centennial, 16 in a 56-37 win over Palm Springs and 17 points in a 72-61 win over Moreno Valley.
James Cotton, a senior at St. John Bosco High in Bellflower, was named the MVP of the De La Salle Tournament in Concord. In a 59-57 victory over Riordan High of San Francisco, he scored 24 points. He had 25 points and 14 rebounds in an 87-67 semifinal win over Fremont High of Sunnyvale. And he had 27 points and 14 rebounds as the Braves defeated De La Salle, 76-61, in the title game.
