Jacobs Makes Commitment to Stanford

Tailback Quincy Jacobs of Thousand Oaks High, who was hampered by a groin injury during his senior season, has committed to Stanford.

Jacobs took recruiting trips to California, Northwestern and Stanford before committing to play for the Cardinal. He canceled trips to Notre Dame and Colorado after making his decision.

“I liked Stanford because it offered excellence in both athletics and academics,” Jacobs said. “And playing for someone like Coach (Bill) Walsh is a dream come true.”

Jacobs (5-foot-10, 195 pounds) was limited to 567 yards and two touchdowns in 106 carries while appearing in only five games, but that didn’t seem to hurt his stock among recruiters.

“I was worried that it might, but when the coaches kept calling I was able to relax,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs, who turned 17 last month, suffered a groin pull against Hart in the second game of the season and played sparingly thereafter. The Lancers finished 4-5-1--fourth in the Marmonte League at 4-3--and missed the playoffs for the first time since 1983.

As a junior, Jacobs rushed for 1,189 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Magee and Fernandez, coaches of the Verdugo Hills Legion team that advanced to the District 20 playoffs last summer, said the hourlong show will cover a variety of topics, including sports.

The show will be broadcast early Wednesday morning, beginning at midnight.
