PREP ROUNDUP : Keeler Has Goal, Assist as Troy Beats Cypress for Girls’ Soccer Title
Emily Keeler had a goal and an assist to lead Troy to a 2-0 victory over Cypress in the championship game of the Magnolia girls’ soccer tournament Saturday at Magnolia High School.
Keeler scored a second-half goal for the Warriors (7-3) and assisted on Christie Kelly’s first-half goal. Goalie Jenny Standard made 12 saves for Cypress (7-2).
In the Cerritos girls’ soccer tournament:
Los Alamitos 5, Temple City 2--Elizabeth Willemse scored two goals to lead Los Alamitos (6-2-1) to a semifinal victory. Earlier, Los Alamitos edged Canyon, the No. 2-ranked team in the county, 1-0, in the quarterfinals.
Brea-Olinda 9, Sierra Madre Alverno 0--Amy Alexander scored three goals for Brea-Olinda (3-5-2) in a consolation game.
In the Hacienda Heights Wilson girls’ soccer tournament:
Rosary 2, Walnut 1--Amy Shanks and Beverly Tibbo scored for Rosary (4-2-1) in a semifinal game. The Royals advanced to play Chino Don Lugo in Monday’s championship game.
In the South Torrance girls’ soccer tournament:
Capistrano Valley 3, Palos Verdes Peninsula 2--Kim McKay scored the winning goal for Capistrano Valley (7-1-1), which advanced to Tuesday’s championship game against Pasadena Poly. Peninsula is 10-2.
In the Riverside Poly boys’ soccer tournament:
Canyon 7, Murrieta Valley 2--Jamie Jenike and Steve Maynard each scored two goals for Canyon (3-1-3) in a first-round game.
Mater Dei 1, Norte Vista 1 (Mater Dei advances on penalty kicks)--The Monarchs (2-0-4) won their second-round game after Matt Thomas scored the winning penalty kick for a 6-5 victory in the shootout.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Los Alamitos 2, Huntington Beach 0--Pat Lee had two assists for visiting Los Alamitos (5-1-3), which posted its sixth shutout this season.
In the Bellflower six-way wrestling tournament:
Kennedy Finishes Second--Greg Wyatt (103), Paul Durniok (160) and Paul Soto (171) each won their divisions for Kennedy, which lost to Bellflower in the championship match, 46-18.
In the Colton Christmas wrestling tournament:
Tapia Named Top Wrestler--Zac Tapia led San Clemente to a third-place finish, winning the 135-pound division and earning most valuable wrestler of the lower weight classes in the 20-team invitational.
