Freudenberg Wins First-Round Match

Brandi Freudenberg of El Modena High, the Times Orange County girls’ tennis player of the year, defeated Fernanda Tsucamoto of Brazil, 6-4, 6-2, in the first round of the International Orange Bowl junior tournament Sunday at Flamingo Park in Miami.

Freudenberg, ranked among the top-five nationally of the girls’ 16 singles division, will play Vanesa Castelleno of Spain in the second round today. Freudenberg will also play a first-round doubles match with Vanessa Rooks of San Diego today.

The clay court tournament features 64 of the world’s top junior players and concludes Dec. 27.
