OUTLOOK When the Warriors assembled for their first practice this season, Garcia decided to hold off on scrimmaging. With only three players out for the squad, she figured it would be tough to split up into teams. “We put out the request that we needed players,” she said. What Garcia ended up with is a team composed of seven of eight players who are playing basketball for the first time. Needless to say, that has forced Garcia to keep things simple. “It’s going to be a basics year,” Garcia said. “But they are all willing and capable of being good ballplayers. They all have shown the desire to play. So it’s exciting.” Garcia, a former girls’ coach in Colorado, wants the Warriors to run. “We’re pushing for a fast game,” Garcia said. “I want them to go fast and use their speed.” Leading the break should be point guard Kimberly Williams. Garcia wants her to get the ball to Nanzi or Mulliken, or take the shot herself. If it’s a miss, Garcia is counting on Ogilvie to grab the rebound. What Garcia isn’t counting on is winning the Express League title. “I know very little about the league. But this first year is a growing year. We’re going to get better.”
