OUTLOOK With just one senior on the team, it isn’t hard to figure out what the Koalas’ biggest obstacle in the Sunrise League will be. “We’re real young,” said Salazar. “We have some good athletes, but they’re very inexperienced as far as varsity competition. They have to learn strategy and fundamentals at the same time.” Apparently, Salazar believes he has some fast learners. “I honestly think we should make the playoffs this year if we keep improving,” Salazar said. “This team should keep getting better.” Offensively, Salazar calls the Koalas’ balance their strength. Pinero is a pure shooter who Salazar said can score from outside. At six feet, Salazar said Cappel is a decent inside player who will mature. “She has a nice little shot,” Salazar said. In Samson, Salazar said the Koalas have a solid point guard. “Jennifer is one of the better point guards in the league although only a freshman,” Salazar said. “They can all score.” Probably the biggest worry Salazar has is the size of most teams in the Sunrise League. “There are a lot of physical teams and we don’t have big girls,” he said. “So we’ll have to move the ball. It will all come if we keep working hard.”
