PREP ROUNDUP : Santa Margarita Beats Orange for Boys’ Soccer Title

Josh Keller’s second-half goal helped Santa Margarita, ranked No. 1 in Orange County, to a 1-0 victory over fourth-ranked Orange in the championship game of the South Torrance boys’ soccer tournament Tuesday in Torrance.

Matt Reis made three saves for the Eagles (7-0), who posted their fifth shutout this season. Orange is 6-2-3.

In the third-place game:

Santa Ana Valley 4, South Torrance 2 (OT)--Francisco Islas and Ralphie Cabrera scored overtime goals for seventh-ranked Santa Ana Valley (7-1).

Santa Ana Valley goalie Jose-Luis Gutierrez stopped two penalty kicks--one with no time remaining in regulation, and the other in the first half of overtime.

In the consolation final:

Ocean View 2, North Torrance 0--Jay Borowski scored a goal off Chad Lawson’s assist to give Ocean View (8-1) a 1-0 lead at the half.

In the championship game of the Riverside Poly tournament:

Canyon 2, Mater Dei 0--Jamie Jenike scored twice and goalie Aaron Harries had eight saves to post the shutout for Canyon.

In the South Torrance girls’ soccer tournament championship game:

Capistrano Valley 1, Pasadena Poly 1 (OT)--The Cougars (7-1-2), ranked fourth in the county, were declared co-champions with Pasadena Poly (7-0-2) after playing 20 minutes of scoreless overtime. Erin Daley scored for Capistrano Valley.

In the third-place game:

Edison 2, Palos Verdes Peninsula 1--Christine Tyler and Erin Bailey scored for Edison (6-3), ranked third in the county.

In nonleague girls’ soccer:

Garden Grove 5, Orange Lutheran 2--Elisa Ross scored four goals for host Garden Grove (3-5-2).

In the semifinals of the Great Florida Shootout boys’ basketball tournament:

Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) Anderson 93, Capistrano Valley 72--Corey Kost scored 24 points for the Cougars (7-2), who lost to Anderson (9-0), the third-ranked team in Florida.

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

Foothill 75, San Clemente 62--Jared Winger scored 36 points coming off the bench to lead Foothill (4-6) over San Clemente (3-7).

In the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions girls’ basketball:

Brea-Olinda 48, Poway 46--Nicole Erickson made two free throws with six seconds left for Brea-Olinda (11-0). Coleen Hudson had 16 points for the Ladycats, who advance to tonight’s final against Thousand Oaks.
